It started with the time

... or lack there of.

As an avid SOTA and WWFF activator who logs contacts on paper, the ability to record UTC time makes subsequent transposing to digital a far simpler affair. And so it was that when operating the QMX, having to set the clock every time it was powered on quickly became tedious.

It started simply enough

The QMX's TM; CAT command would allow me to create a basic Android app for myself, which would automatically set the time. But once I had the app's scaffolding complete, I started dreaming a little. What about a quick facility to check my SWR across the frequencies I normally work. How about cycling my favourite SOTA frequencies in the order I normally work them? It would be great to scan around those frequencies too, when I'm having a break. "What about ...", "and then I could ...", "oohh, I can also ..." . You get the picture.

Of course this is all only possible due to the outstanding CAT interface which Hans has built into the QMX. By giving us so much capability, it's goading us to dream up ideas and explore what we can do with the QMX. Thanks Hans! I know there's lots of excitement around Polar Modulation, but for me, the hackability is the stand-out feature.

Giving back to the QMX community

In the end it proved so versatile that I chose to clean up the interface and realease it for the benefit of the QMX community.

I've learned so much from the generous contributions on the QRP Labs' mailing list, that it was a nice to have something of my own by which to return the favour.

I've created a discord server where I hope you will share your ideas and support others trying to create scripts of their own.

If you find it just as useful as I do, let me know. :-)
